Le Tampon, Reunion

Interesting... I just got a hit from a small French island in the Indian Ocean. The island of Reunion, in it's 'Le Tampon' provence. Apparently it has 71,000 citizens.

I find it amazing that people read this blog all over the world. Please feel free to comment if you do!

Greyscale Gorilla's Five Second Projects

If you're into motion graphic design, you may have seen this site GreyscaleGorilla.com run by Nick Campbell aka 'The Gorilla'.

As well as running tutorials, releasing iPhone apps and selling plug-ins, The Gorilla runs a competition called Five Second Projects. It's a great idea: given a theme, motion designers create short animations that can both boost their showreel and practice software skills. After such themes as: 'retro', 'countdown', 'CMYK', 'fast food', 'self-portrait' etc, The Gorilla launched today a theme of 'nightmare', well timed for Halloween.

There's a great community vibe to the comments over on the site, and I've seen a lot of useful feedback given, as well as a good way to find top-notch upcoming motionographers.

Here's a few of my favourite entries from previous competitions.

Fluid Sculpture

Wow. This incredible sculpture is an on-going production over at the website casualprofanity.com. It was at one point an experimental skirt for a fashion show. But this video, which has just won a 2010 Vimeo Festival +Award in the 'captured' category, shows it's beauty as an organic looking and precisely tangled sculpture. Truly mesmerising.
